With family therapy, I help moms and their explosive sons who are struggling with conflict affecting the whole home so you can stop feeling like everyone is pulling in different directions and start rebuilding connection and safety together.

The Conflict Is Affecting Everyone. And You're Not Sure How Much Longer You Can Hold It Together.

It's not just you and your son anymore. Your other kids are affected. Your partner is affected. The tension in your home has become the baseline, and everyone is walking on eggshells in their own way. You feel guilty that it's gotten to this point. And you're not sure whether what your family needs is more strategies, more patience, or something else entirely.

When conflict becomes the pattern, it affects every relationship in the home. Family therapy creates space for everyone to feel heard, helps you understand what's driving the dynamic between you and your son, and starts to rebuild the connection that's been strained by months or years of hard moments.

If this feels familiar, I see you.

What Is Family Therapy?

Family therapy is a collaborative process that brings the people most affected by the conflict into the room together. It's not about assigning blame or identifying who's doing it wrong. It's about understanding the patterns that have developed between you and your son, and creating space for something different to emerge.

When explosive behavior has been the pattern for a while, it affects everyone in the home. Family therapy helps repair those relationships, rebuild trust, and give every member of the family a chance to feel heard and understood.

I'm Elaine, and I Believe Your Family Can Find Its Way Back to Each Other.

I'm a trauma-informed therapist in New York and Florida who works with families navigating explosive behavior and the conflict it creates at home. By the time most families reach out for this kind of support, everyone is exhausted and the distance between family members can feel significant.

Family therapy creates space for that distance to close. We work together to understand what's driving the patterns, repair what's been strained, and help every member of the family feel safer and more connected.

I'm steady, warm, and committed to helping your family find its footing again.

A Space Where Everyone Gets to Be Heard

Family sessions are structured but not rigid. We create enough safety for everyone in the room to speak honestly, including your son. The tone is calm and collaborative, never about assigning blame or picking sides. Everyone's experience matters, and the goal is always to help the family find more ease together.

Early sessions focus on understanding the patterns that have developed and giving everyone a common language to work with. As trust builds, we go deeper, addressing what's underneath the conflict and creating space for genuine connection to re-emerge.

A space where connection starts to feel possible again.

What May Begin to Feel Different at Home.

Family therapy works gradually. But as the patterns start to shift, clients often notice changes that ripple through the whole household.

Less

Tension

The baseline at home starts to feel less like bracing and more like breathing.

More

Connection

You and your son begin to find moments of genuine ease between you.

Clearer Communication

Everyone starts to feel more heard and less like they're talking past each other.

What Your Family Could Start to Feel Like on the Other Side.

As the patterns in your family begin to shift, you may start to notice moments of ease that weren't there before. A conversation that doesn't escalate. A repair that happens more quickly. Your son coming to you instead of exploding. Small signs that the connection between you is starting to rebuild.

Over time, those moments can become the new baseline. Not a perfect family. But one where everyone feels safer, more heard, and more able to navigate the hard moments without it affecting everything else. That's what becomes possible when the work goes deep enough.

Notice the Shifts

Change in family therapy is often gradual. Over time you may notice less tension at home, more moments of connection, and a growing sense that things are moving in a different direction.

When Family Therapy Starts Working.

You may begin to notice moments of ease that weren't there before. A conversation that doesn't escalate. A repair that happens more quickly than it used to. Your son coming to you instead of exploding. Small signs that the distance between you is starting to close.

Over time, those moments tend to become more frequent. The tension that was once the baseline at home starts to soften. Everyone begins to feel a little safer, a little more heard, and a little more able to navigate the hard moments without it affecting everything else.

Family therapy works through consistency, honesty, and a shared commitment to showing up for the process. Change doesn't happen all at once. But most families describe a point where they look around and realize the dynamic has genuinely shifted.

Frequently Asked Questions About Family Therapy

  • What if my son refuses to participate?

Resistance is common, especially in boys who have been in conflict with a parent for a long time. We'll talk about how to introduce the idea in a way that feels less threatening to him. In some cases it makes sense to start with individual sessions before bringing everyone together. The structure of family therapy is always tailored to what's most likely to work for your specific situation.

  • [Who attends family therapy sessions?

That depends on what makes the most sense for your family. In most cases sessions include you and your son, though other family members can be included when it's clinically appropriate. We'll talk about the best structure for your situation during a consultation.

  • How long does family therapy take and how often will we meet?

Most families start with weekly sessions. Length of treatment depends on how long the patterns have been in place and what the family wants to get out of the work. Some families notice meaningful shifts within a few months. Others find that more sustained support helps the changes take root. We track progress consistently so you always have a clear sense of how things are moving.

  • How much do sessions cost and do you accept insurance?

Sessions are $200. I am in-network with select insurance plans in New York and Florida. If I'm out of network with your carrier, I can provide a superbill you can submit for reimbursement. We can talk through your options during a consultation.
